So, the flights are booked and that's all we can do for now. We leave on June 29th, and have a tentative return flight booked on August 20th (that might change depending on how things evolve). The entire process of adoption takes place in Ukraine. So, when we get there, we have an appointment scheduled on July 3rd where we look thru available portfolios on whatever information they have about the children (which usually isn't much). Then we pick and go from there. The child will not be younger than 14 months, and up to about age 2 OR we also specified that we would accept two siblings under the age of 4. The child can be located in an orphanage anywhere in Ukraine, so although our start is in Kiev, we don't know where we'll end up. Once we have made the selection, the child is examined by doctors and the paper work starts. At first we get visitation rights, then as things progress the child can live with us, but can't leave the country quite yet. The entire process takes about 6 weeks.
So, we don't know whether we'll be getting a boy or girl, 1 or 2 children, exactly what age, or even where we'll be staying while there...all very exciting. To help us out in the adventure, we have wonderful friends joining us in this journey for 3 weeks of our stay in Ukraine - how fantastic to have friends like that!!! Thanks Carla, Tyler, and baby Natalie!!!

Adoption News for Sylvia and Matt
April 3, 2008
I know many of you have been following our adoption process with us for the last 2 years, and we always told people we would let them know when we found out anything. Well, this morning, we finally received the call we have been waiting for. Our adoption application has finally been accepted!!!! We have to be in Ukraine by July 3rd for our appointment. We only received our phone call this morning at 6am (our agent couldn't hold back the exciting news), so at this time do not have a lot more information other than, yes, we are finally going. It is expected that we will be gone for 6-7 weeks, but that could change a bit once we are there, but that all depends on how busy the different departments are in Ukraine. We will be talking to our agency more tonite, but for now, this is our exciting news.
Thank you to everyone who has been beside us, and will continue to support us.
